In Newfoundland, generosity is a way of life. Newfoundlanders are known for being the kind of people who will “share the catch” without hesitation, making sure those around them are supported, welcomed, and cared for. That spirit has shaped SJFX from the very beginning and continues to guide everything we do.
The Share the Catch Foundation was created in loving memory of co-owner Justin Garland’s grandfather, “Poppy,” who embodied that same warmth and kindness. Poppy was the kind of man who would help anyone who needed it, always with a smile and never expecting anything in return. He played an important role at the restaurant, whether lending a hand with daily errands or simply sitting for a chat that lifted everyone’s spirits. His generosity and heart are the foundation’s inspiration.
For years, SJFX has proudly supported local organizations — from our annual toy drive to partnering with community pillars like Habitat for Humanity Newfoundland and Labrador and many others. Giving back has never been something we added on; it’s always been part of who we are.
With Poppy’s memory and Newfoundland’s tradition of sharing at the forefront, SJFX is honoured to officially launch the Share the Catch Foundation. This initiative represents our ongoing commitment to supporting the community that has supported us all along. We’re excited for what’s ahead, and we look forward to continuing this journey of generosity together.
